Sovereignty on full display during Chad’s independence anniversary
The 66th anniversary of Chad’s independence was celebrated with a grand military parade in N’Djaména and similar events across major cities. The festivities, held on August 11, highlighted the nation’s sovereignty and military prowess.
President Mahamat Déby Itno presided over the N’Djaména parade alongside two distinguished guests: Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, President of Madagascar’s Refondation, and General Horta Inta-A, leader of Guinea-Bissau’s transitional government.
The hour-long military display showcased the operational readiness of Chad’s Defense and Security Forces, which boast over 5,000 active personnel, as confirmed by the General Staff of the Armed Forces.
Earlier in the day, President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno paid tribute at the Monument aux morts in N’Djaména, honoring fallen soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation. Chad, formerly under French rule, gained independence on August 11, 1960.
Since his election in May 2024, President Déby Itno has emphasized strengthening Chad’s strategic partnerships, signaling a new phase in the country’s diplomatic and economic engagements.
