The Social Democratic Front (SDF) has taken a decisive step in preparing for upcoming elections. In a strategic move, the party’s National Executive Committee has appointed Louis Marie Kakdeu, the party’s second vice-president, as director of the newly formed National Electoral Preparation Commission.

The appointment was announced following a meeting held on June 13, 2026 in Bamenda. Kakdeu’s leadership of this commission underscores the SDF’s commitment to conducting the 2027 municipal and legislative elections with transparency, efficiency, and a strong grassroots presence. These elections will be critical in shaping the country’s political landscape, and the SDF is determined to approach them with meticulous planning.

Strengthening transparency and grassroots engagement

Under Kakdeu’s leadership, the commission will focus on several key objectives:

  • Field mobilization: A systematic return to the ground to reconnect with voters and party structures in traditional strongholds.
  • Recruitment of qualified candidates: Identifying and supporting credible candidates in underserved constituencies to ensure robust political representation.
  • Enhanced polling station oversight: Strengthening the presence of neutral election observers to safeguard the integrity of the voting process.
  • Strategic campaign structuring: Laying the groundwork for an organized and impactful electoral campaign.

Kakdeu’s appointment reflects his deep trust within the party and his proven track record. Prior to this role, he served as the national campaign director for Joshua Osih during the October 2025 presidential election. An economist and academic specializing in fiscal and budgetary matters, Kakdeu brings both expertise and a hands-on approach to his new responsibilities.

A response to recent electoral challenges

The creation of this commission marks the SDF’s proactive response to recent electoral setbacks. By reinforcing its organizational structure, the party aims to revitalize its base, improve transparency, and reconnect with voters ahead of the 2027 elections. Kakdeu’s vision includes a stronger presence in polling stations and a renewed focus on grassroots engagement to rebuild trust and credibility.
