The Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, held a high-level meeting this Tuesday with a delegation from the Interafrican Federation of Insurance Brokers (FIAC), led by Acting President Vakaramoko Samaké. The purpose of the gathering was to discuss critical issues ahead of the federation’s 16th annual general assembly, set to take place in Ouagadougou from June 10 to 13, 2026.

The event, themed “The role of insurance brokers in expanding access and boosting market penetration”, aims to position brokers as pivotal players in financial inclusion across West Africa. Nearly 200 insurance brokers from the 14 member countries of the Interafrican Conference on Insurance Markets (CIMA), along with representatives from Guinea and Ghana, are expected to attend.

Following the meeting, Acting FIAC President Vakaramoko Samaké expressed his appreciation for the Prime Minister’s commitment to sponsoring the event, calling it a testament to Burkina Faso’s leadership in the sector.

Samaké highlighted the evolving role of insurance brokers, stating, “Our profession now drives economic growth and job creation in our countries. This assembly marks the beginning of a transformative shift, with financial inclusion as the cornerstone of our mission.”

The Prime Minister welcomed the decision to host the event in Ouagadougou, calling it a “symbol of solidarity” toward Burkina Faso. He also addressed the country’s progress despite challenges, noting, “While we face misrepresentation and stereotypes, we remain steadfast as our economy advances across all sectors, as reflected in key macroeconomic indicators.”

He underscored the relevance of the event’s theme, aligning it with government priorities. “Insurance is now indispensable across all sectors, including rural areas where climate insurance is becoming a necessity. This proves risks are expanding, and our people deserve better protection.”

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to making insurance brokers a cornerstone of resilience, the Prime Minister concluded, “Rest assured of our full support in implementing your recommendations. I urge you to unite and adapt to the evolving landscape.”

This meeting underscores Burkina Faso’s determination to position its insurance sector as a driver of economic recovery and long-term resilience.
