The Burkina Faso government has reaffirmed its commitment to broadening international partnerships, with a particular focus on strengthening ties with Eastern European nations. This strategic move was highlighted during a high-level meeting in Ouagadougou, where the country’s top diplomat welcomed a Serbian parliamentary delegation led by Slavenko Ristic.
The visit, which took place on June 3, 2026, aimed to explore new avenues of cooperation between the two nations, particularly in defense, security, and professional training sectors. The Burkinabè delegation, represented by Foreign Minister Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré and Deputy Minister Bêbgnasgnan Stella Eldine Kabré/Kaboré, engaged in productive discussions with their Serbian counterparts.
Slavenko Ristic, also serving as CEO of the Serbian defense technology firm Tehnicki Remont Bratunac, praised Burkina Faso’s current leadership and President Ibrahim Traoré’s strategic vision. “The President’s approach resonates strongly in our country and commands deep respect,” he stated. The Serbian lawmaker underscored Serbia’s eagerness to strengthen its engagement across Africa, declaring, “Africa represents the future, and we are determined to be part of that future.”
Minister Traoré welcomed this initiative, noting that it reflects Serbia’s growing interest in Burkina Faso. He emphasized the substantial yet untapped potential for collaboration between the two countries. “We actively seek partners who can build mutually beneficial relationships with us,” he explained, adding that Burkina Faso is actively diversifying its international alliances.
The Burkinabè Foreign Minister also presented Serbia’s representatives with the country’s renewed diplomatic vision, urging them to help bridge understanding between African realities and European policymakers. In response, Ristic committed to advocating for Burkina Faso and Africa within European decision-making circles to promote more balanced cooperation.
This meeting marks a significant step in strengthening the bond between Ouagadougou and Belgrade, as Burkina Faso continues to expand its network of strategic international partnerships in response to evolving global dynamics.
