On Tuesday, June 2, 2026, Captain Ibrahim TRAORÉ, President of Burkina Faso, welcomed Romuald WADAGNI, President of Benin, for an official visit at the Koulouba Palace in Ouagadougou. The meeting marked a pivotal moment in bilateral relations, as both leaders engaged in discussions to revitalize cooperation between their nations.

The joint press release, issued by Burkina Faso’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Karamoko Jean Marie TRAORÉ, highlighted the strategic importance of this visit. During their tête-à-tête, the Presidents reviewed the existing partnership and reaffirmed their commitment to deepening ties built on mutual trust, solidarity, and collaborative solutions to shared challenges.

The security situation in the subregion took center stage in their discussions. Both Presidents underscored the urgency of strengthening joint efforts against terrorism, transnational crime, and violent extremism. They pledged to work hand-in-hand to foster peace, stability, and sustainable development across West Africa.

Economic cooperation also featured prominently in the talks. The leaders acknowledged promising opportunities in trade, industry, vocational training, infrastructure, and logistics. The strategic role of the Port of Cotonou in supplying Burkina Faso was emphasized, alongside the need to enhance the efficiency of transport corridors. The Presidents agreed to expedite the convening of the 5th Session of the Joint High Commission and finalize pending agreements. They also celebrated the seamless integration of their communities and reaffirmed the enduring historical and human bonds between their peoples.

The visit concluded with an official invitation from the Beninese President to his Burkinabè counterpart, signaling a renewed commitment to regional prosperity and integration.
