Bénin unveils 2026-2033 government action plan for national progress
The finalization of the Government Action Plan (PAG) for the 2026-2033 seven-year term is imminent. The official presentation is scheduled for the political rentrée in September, marking a pivotal moment in the country’s development trajectory.
Strategic pillars of the PAG 2026-2033
As outlined by government spokesperson Léandre Wilfried Houngbédji, the upcoming PAG aims to build upon ongoing reforms while introducing fresh priorities in social, economic, and security domains. The plan is structured around three core pillars designed to address the nation’s most pressing challenges.
Poverty eradication and regional balance
The first pillar focuses on eliminating extreme poverty and reducing territorial disparities. This involves targeted policies to uplift vulnerable communities and ensure balanced development across all departments.
National security reinforcement
The second pillar prioritizes strengthening national security to safeguard citizens and foster a stable environment conducive to growth and investment.
Government efficiency and public policy optimization
The third pillar introduces structural reforms to enhance the effectiveness of public policies. Key measures include monthly cabinet meetings, bi-monthly inter-ministerial committees, and thematic cabinet councils for closer monitoring and execution.
Inclusive governance through citizen participation
In alignment with Benin’s commitment to the Open Government Partnership, the finalization of the PAG will incorporate direct input from citizens through consultations held across all twelve departments. This participatory approach ensures that state investments align with local needs and priorities, fostering inclusive and sustainable development.
