In Kétou, motorcycle taxi riders will soon be required to wear a uniform while working. The municipal authorities are launching a registration drive ahead of this reform, which is described as a way to boost safety, improve driver identification, and better organise urban transport.

This decision applies to all six districts of the commune and aims to bring better regulation to the motorcycle taxi trade. The town hall states that the measure will make it easier to identify drivers, enhance passenger safety, and help improve transport organisation within the city.

To implement the rule, an enrollment campaign will run from July 6 to July 20, 2026, at the administrative secretariats of each district. Drivers must bring a valid ID to register. This step is mandatory to receive the official uniform.

After the registration period ends, only drivers who have been properly enrolled and are wearing the uniform will be allowed to carry passengers. The town hall warns that any driver who fails to comply will face penalties as set out in current regulations.

The communal authorities are also urging residents to support the reform by choosing only officially identified drivers. District chiefs, motorcycle taxi driver associations, and security services have been tasked with ensuring that the new rule is properly enforced.
